Religion is evil

March 18th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Some people are shocked when they hear me say this. That’s because they don’t like to have something they believe in called evil. When I say that religion is evil, I don’t mean that religion has no value whatsoever. I mean that the net world effect from religion is to promote evil. That’s odd, given that one purpose of most world religions is to combat evil. Unfortunately, an irrational belief system does not provide a sound basis for clear thinking. When people are encouraged to believe things that are unverifiable or illogical, they are led into a state where they can easily be swayed by crap.

As far as I can tell, the purpose of religion falls into two themes:

  1. to conjure up an explanation for how humans came to exist on the planet
  2. to distinguish good from evil

In both areas, religion is crap. The first theme is pretty much nonsense, but gives people a convenient way to live with their ignorance. In distinguishing good from evil, religion has managed to do more to promote evil. The whole point of religion is to define what is right and what is wrong, and to separate those who believe in what is right from those who believe in what is wrong. It’s a tool for dividing people, and it is repeatedly used for that purpose. If you don’t believe, then you are an infidel - a non-believer, and are one of “them”. If you believe in something else, then you stand as a barrier to evangelism, since you have already made up your mind to believe something else. Religion also likes to confuse the war between good and evil. To quote from beingjewish.com: What is evil? Not fulfilling G-d’s will. Uh - that’s crap. By defining evil in such vague terms, it enables religious leaders to manipulate unsuspecting masses into fulfilling their idiotic will.

Let’s review the impact of religion in the last few decades:

  1. the murder of 3,000 people in the 9/11 attacks by Islamic terrorists.
  2. 60,000 people killed in Iraq by the combination of Christian-fueled rage in the US and civil war between Sunnis and Shiites.
  3. long term war in Yugoslavia.
  4. long term war in Ireland
  5. Judaism used as an excuse to seize land and discriminate against Palestinian people
  6. celibacy for Catholic priests leading to repeated and prolonged sexual abuse of boys by men who are confused about their sexual existence.

This is quite a track record.

I am an atheist myself, but I’ve mostly ignored religion during my lifetime. In recent years I have come to the conclusion that religion can no longer be ignored, and it should be recognized for having contributed more evil than good. If you choose to believe in some kind of god, take your skepticism along with you, because choosing to believe in something just because someone else has told you to believe in it is a recipe for deception.

In my opinion, the net impact from religion is evil. Religion is also crap.

I came to that conclusion as well. Apparently throughout history religion has been a primary source of wars and conflict between one group of believers and another. Nowadays we see that as these religions continue to exist they are the scourge of modern conflict.

We know Muslim Terrorists are killing Americans in the name of Jihad (holywar) but I can tell you christianity has had more than their fair share of holy wars in the past.

Most religions always have to an enemy, a source of evil. When truth is evil exists only in those who seek to do harm in any way psychologically or physically.

See the problem with the dominant religions is that they’re too ancient! What we know today is completely different than what the ancients knew. We have the internet which is a huge source of information which travels nearly all over the advanced civilizations. What this world needs is totally new religion to become dominant and serve as a true source of guidance. However no matter who you are you’re always going to have a preference for your culture and therefore when finding a religion you will also look for an enemy. That’s problem. Everywhere we go there are people we misunderstand, it’s human nature to hate certain people who are different usually out of fear that they’re culture will assimilate your culture. Anyway what I’m trying to say is that we need to establish a standard moral principles and guidance from within ourselves and learn to conquer hatred for what is different.

Anyway to get to point the conflict of today is really because of how old dominant religions are Christians, Muslims and Jews are the relgions that are warmongering today. Back then we needed religion as source of controlling our people keeping order in a nation. People were not as intelligent as we are today. The world was a much larger place and so back then religion was needed for people to come together. Now we are much smaller world because of telecommunications, so its easier to get the word out and influence people. Because of this world is
only going to be a better when we are united under a religion that promotes peace between everything even our enemies.

If we ever united under more modernised religion it would important to really get religion out of politics and not take religion too seriously. If you look at muslims and jews they think religion is so important when in reality it just a system of beliefs to justify their own ambitous desires for power, and where they leanred that from? Christianity. Christianity is nowadays in better position to defend itself because of its dominance but in the past christians were the ones who went to war all over europe and the rest of the world.

Anyway religion has been the primary source of all evil in the world but everytime one religion conquers the other it makes the loser the evil ones and they take action so that religion never comes back and is hated forever.

Relgion needs to make comeback and be modernised with philosophy of the current generation. We all know killing, harming and violence is by wrong by now. But those in power need to keep people under control so relgion is used as source to misguide people into joining the majority. The problem with all of the dominant religions of today is that they don’t allow for newer religions to come out. When they do start popping up around and about they’re not vocal enough influence the dominant majority of a nation, it’s just to large. In politics every nation has an official religion so it’s to spread the newer generation because we try to mold them back into christians or muslims or whatever our religion because it’s the nations religion.

See most of us are more comfortable with staying atheist because we are lead to believe that religions are indeed to the source evil and they are in most cases but we are afraid to be like them believing in something is exactly what has become the opposite of the atheist. So if the whole world were to be atheist, (I think I would really like to give this world a try), it would gradually make believers of gods an enemy for what they caused in the past, therefore creating a new source of Good and Evil which would repeat the same mistakes of the past.

It just human nature to create opposites for everything. They only way is to establish equality is to lose our difference and world without difference isn’t a world that pleases us.

Bla bla bla hahaha, Anyway the only to solve the world’s conflict of today and for the future is to assimliate the huge majority of relgions to adopt a newer more modern religion with the philosphies of today.

But it’s the arrogance of those in power. Those who run the militaries just want more political power and when a mutual conflict between nations happens it leads to war because some leaders just plain hate the other religion.

My point is can you imagine a world where instead of worshipping ancient prophets and misguided lunatics that had imaginary powers, we should really focus on what we are today and what we can do for the future instead of dwelling on the past. If we had a religion that had modern
gods it would be more interesting like a god of Advertising a god of televisons or something I don’t know, I mean they had gods for water and fire and nature we should have gods for our technology of today.

We seriously need to make religion more interesting because really it doesn’t how we were created what matters is the future not the past and people need a source of guidance that would model future and not stem from the past. I mean what’s the point if jesus DID miraculous things, or mohammed heard voices Allah from and stuff. Does it matter if these people were so great? What good does it do to worship them? WHen was the last time someone like jesus came? It’s stopped because nowadays there a lot of people that hear voices from who they claim are divine beings like God, but most of these people are put in mental institutions and only released when they say god is no longer talking to them and they don’t hear voices. That’s just one way of keeping newer religions at bay. I’m a schizophrenic and heard voices before… which led to spiritual heights. Before that I was atheist.

But anyway I could on and on but this world needs to forget Christianity, Judaism and Islam in particular. These religions are not healthy for the human beings.

But what’s most important is that the importance and gravity of religion needs to seriously be downgraded to simple belief of what the supernatural is. It really shouldn’t be used in politics

Sorry for the extremely long post haha.
