When I was a young man, my country was engaged in a supremely misguided war in southeast Asia. Once again, my country is engaged in a supremely misguided war. While it can be said that every election is important, few elections are as important to the future of a country as this one in the USA. I believe that John McCain represents a dangerous element of American society, those who view all conflicts in military terms. While I agree that there are small groups of individuals whose religious beliefs have caused them to treat the United States as their enemy, I see very little difference between islamic fundamentalists and christian fundamentalists. They are both deluded into thinking that their fantasy is the only true fantasy, and everyone else is their enemy and must therefore be destroyed by force. Both groups constitute a threat to the safety of mankind.
It is therefore imperative that those of us who retain an ability to think and some knowledge of world differences cast our vote on November 4, 2008. The stakes are too high, and the threat from John McCain is too high.
