Thanks to Spafford for linking to this. I used to think of Ronald Reagan as a horrible president, but then along came George W. McCain. I particularly like the part about whether the US is more respected than it was four years ago.

VOTE! Don’t forget to VOTE!
October 23rd, 2008 ·
When I was a young man, my country was engaged in a supremely misguided war in southeast Asia. Once again, my country is engaged in a supremely misguided war. While it can be said that every election is important, few elections are as important to the future of a country as this one in the [...]

It’s about trust
October 8th, 2008 ·
As I look around at what is happening in the world today, I keep seeing evidence that it all comes down to trust. As someone who spent a great deal of time working on information security, the subject of trust is one that I tried to design for, but I always regarded trust as a [...]

Don’t underestimate the redneck vote
September 28th, 2008 ·
In January I made a bet with a friend of mine that any Republican candidate for president will beat any Democrat, provided he gave me 2 to 1 odds. Since then, everyone has been assuming that the democrats would win because Bush looks so weak, but all along I have been thinking about what I [...]

The Olympics and Nationalism
August 10th, 2008 ·

Today is Memorial Day in the United States. The intent of Memorial Day is to honor and remember those who have perished in military service to their country. Those who pay the ultimate price for their country are owed a debt of gratitude that is unquestioned. Our military services operate for two purposes. The primary [...]

There are more sexists than racists
May 20th, 2008 ·
As the democratic presidential nomination process winds down, it’s probably a good time to reflect on what happened along the way. In the beginning there were a lot of candidates (Biden, Dodd, Edwards, Richardson, etc). When the California primary rolled around, I ended up voting for Hillary Clinton, although it was a close call. At [...]

The “war on terror”
February 21st, 2008 ·
I recently was around someone who used the term “war on terror”. I almost started ranting, but decided to pause and think about why that term bugs me so much. Sometimes it’s better to think before you speak. I was reminded of it again when I heard a talk by Thomas Barnett from the TED [...]

Bitching about the war
February 7th, 2008 ·
There have been a lot of complaints about Hillary having voted for funding the war in Iraq, and I’m sure that she regrets that decision just as those who voted for the Gulf of Tonkin resolution regretted it later. It’s easy to forget but at the time, the Bush administration was spreading lies about WMD [...]
